Who Should See a Dermatologist?
When it comes to your skin, there is a variety of different conditions one may develop. For example, many babies and children struggle with eczema and dry skin. Teenagers often battle acne and oily skin. Even adults can face a variety of skin conditions especially as the skin ages. For these reasons, we recommend that everyone should see a dermatologist at some point in their lives. Regular skin check-ups can often catch early signs of any severe skin conditions including skin cancer. If you are experiencing symptoms such as redness, itching, pus, or pain, it is also a good idea to have your condition diagnosed by a professional dermatologist.
We Treat a Variety of General Dermatology Skin Conditions
Acne
Acne is a skin condition that occurs when the oil glands within the skin open and become plugged with oil and dead skin cells resulting in whiteheads, blackheads or pimples.
Dry Skin
Dry skin, officially known as xerosis, is a skin condition which can cause itching, redness, flaking, peeling, cracking and other uncomfortable symptoms.
Eczema
Eczema is a chronic skin condition in which the skin becomes red and itchy. Additional symptoms or conditions can include asthma or hay fever.
Genital Warts
Genital warts are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted infections. Sexual intercourse and oral sex can transmit genital warts
Hives
Hives are skin condition in which welts appear on the skin, occurring individually or clustering together to form one large welt.
Moles
Moles are a common type of skin growth which appear as small, dark brown spots. Monitoring moles and other pigmented patches is an important step in detecting skin cancer.
Molluscum Contagiosum
Molluscum Contagiosum is a common viral skin infection that causes small, smooth, flesh-colored bumps with a dimple in the center. It is caused by the molluscum contagiosum virus and spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact, contaminated objects, or shared surfaces. While molluscum is most common in children, it can also affect adults, especially those with weakened immune systems or certain skin conditions. Although it may resolve on its own, we can provide treatments such as cryotherapy, topical medications, or minor procedures to speed healing, prevent spreading, and reduce scarring.
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) with Levulan®
For patients with sun damage, actinic keratoses (precancerous lesions), or high risk of skin cancer, we offer Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) using Levulan®. This treatment uses a light-activated solution that targets and destroys abnormal cells while preserving healthy skin. PDT not only treats existing precancerous lesions but also helps reduce the likelihood of future skin cancers, making it a powerful prevention tool.
Rosacea
Rosacea is a common skin disease which causes redness in the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin areas.
Scabies
Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by a tiny burrowing mite that live and feed within the skin.
Shingles
Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is a painful skin rash caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus (varicella-zoster). It often begins with tingling, itching, or burning on one side of the body, followed by a blistering rash. Shingles can cause nerve pain that lasts for weeks or months and is more common in adults over 50 or those with weakened immune systems. Early treatment from a dermatologist can help reduce symptoms, speed healing, and lower the risk of complications:
Skin Cancer Prevention
At our practice, we are committed to protecting your skin’s health through early detection, effective treatment, and proactive prevention. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, but it is also one of the most preventable.
Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a chronic skin condition that causes the loss of pigment, leading to white or light-colored patches on the skin. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin color, are destroyed, often due to an autoimmune process. Vitiligo can appear on any part of the body, including the face, hands, and scalp, and it may spread over time. While vitiligo is not contagious or harmful to overall health, it can impact self-esteem and confidence. Dermatology Solutions offer treatments such as topical medications and light therapy to help restore color, slow progression, and improve skin appearance.
Warts
Warts are small, rough skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear anywhere on the body but are most common on the hands, feet, and face. While warts are usually harmless, they can spread to other areas or to other people through direct contact. Common types include common warts, plantar warts (on the feet), and flat warts. Dermatologists offer a variety of wart treatments, such as cryotherapy (freezing), prescription medications, and minor procedures to safely remove warts and reduce recurrence for children and adults.
